Hi all, I wanted to create a custom mount that attacks with the tail, with a bite, in short, that attacks several times and flies, maybe even a monster, but not necessarily.
As a custom mount is created, I didn't quite understand that. Thanks in advance,
Great Question.
There are two ways to go about it.
Mounts in general are armory equipment. These are good for your general horses and other types of mounts that once the rider is dead, are basically removed from the table. While there are standard mounts, there are also traits that can be taken to customize mounts further within reason.
In my Norkraag Dwarves for example my Goat/Ram mounts are done in this way. If the rider is killed the Ram is removed from the table. After all you don't want extra horses/rams running around the tabletop.
This is not the method I would suggest for your mounts since you want them to fight and not just be a method to move quickly across the tabletop.
Monsters of Myth and Legend. This is the way I would go. While this might be a mountain bear, a dinosaur, a manticore, a dragon, or something in-between this covers it.
Monsters X is the ability and is most often taken as a Class Trait. This class creates something entirely different than the rest of your faction and is great for creating just about any type of mount that you want. This takes up one of your class choices, but the mount also stays and fights if the rider is killed.
A great example is again the Norkraag Dwarves who do have bear riders. The bears are created with Monsters X taken from a class trait.
Monsters X works like this. Monsters X grants X new faction traits replacing any existing ones from your faction. It remains as class trait, but allows several new faction traits to be chosen. Your new creature is not related to the faction genetically. X number of traits can be taken from the Monsters of Myth and Legend and/or your Domain's traits. Note that there are also numerous methods to cross over into Biests, Reptilia, etc from Monsters.
This will create your mount of choice, and allow it to continue your fight if the rider is gone.
In contrast a normal warmount that is considered equipment goes away after the rider dies. After all who wants a number of horses running around the field that you have to control.
In our Norkaag Dwarves for instance. The mountain bear is created with Monster X so that it can continue the battle if the dwarf riding is killed for any reason. It makes armored bear quite the opponent.
Other things you could create..... Giants ridden by Orcs. (thinking Battle of the Five Armies), Raptor mounts (thinking dark elves), or even demonic monstrous mounts.
I hope this helps..... Monsters of Myth and Legend really opens the doors wide. Just be aware of the points cost..... those monsters get quite heavy in points. 😀
And very nice to be the first one here! I really like this forum layout and cannot wait to have it in full use.
