I have seen other threads on this but feel like there could be more said on the subject. Throwing weapons are really inefficient ranged weapons, especially compared to regular bows, even though they cost half of what a bow costs. Reasoning the other way around, you can pay 2pts for unlimited ammo, an extra 12" range and an extra attack. Why anyone would ever take the dual weapon upgrade for throwing weapons is beyond me.
Throwing Weapons currently have 2 advantages:
1: they use the user's strength without a limit.
2: they are a cheap point filler.
This countered by clear cons:
1: they take of one of your weapon slots for a single use (bad) ranged attack.
2: they are low range, so unless you can run another squad in front of the throwers, you have an exhausted squad in charge range of most enemies.
Now something that could make throwing slightly better would be if you can buy multiple of them in the same "weapon slot" (since you only get 2), or even change Limited Ammo to a number of uses based on the model's level or a characteristic.
Something else might be to allow thrown weapons to be used after charging (maybe with a -1 penalty), so there is incentive to take them on otherwise melee units.
Just some thoughts. Thrown weapons speak to the imagination and history is full of them, and they come out poorly in this game, which is a shame. Would love to see them get better, or maybe see the basic bow go up to 6pts or something, to emphasise the cheapness of Thrown Weapons.
Happy wargaming!
